Polaris Bank, Partners Support 16,000 Students To Address Out-of-School Children Crisis in Nigeria
Share

Polaris Bank, in collaboration with key stakeholders, has reaffirmed its dedication to tackling the pressing issue of out-of-school children in Nigeria. Through targeted interventions, the bank has facilitated access to education for over 16,000 students since 2020, with plans to expand its impact to 50,000 students by 2028.

Key Highlights

1. Inclusive Education Initiative

  • The program focuses on empowering vulnerable communities, with a special emphasis on the girl child, while also including male students to ensure an inclusive approach.
  • Essential school items, such as bags, uniforms, sandals, books, and pens, are provided to students, addressing barriers to school enrollment.

2. Alignment with UN SDG Goals

  • The initiative supports UN Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
  • Targeting Nigeria’s most underserved communities, the program addresses a critical need, as UNESCO reports over 20 million Nigerian children lack access to basic education.

3. Holistic Learning Approach

  • Beyond material support, the Brighter Minds Programme introduces brain-training techniques and emotional intelligence education, fostering resilience, focus, and confidence in young learners.
  • This transformative project enhances traditional education by equipping students with skills for lifelong learning and personal development.

Expanding Impact Across Nigeria

Between November and December 2024, Polaris Bank visited eight schools across various states, distributing essentials and introducing innovative learning methods. Since its inception, the initiative has reached nine states, demonstrating a commitment to bridging educational gaps nationwide.

CEO’s Statement

Kayode Lawal, Managing Director/CEO of Polaris Bank, emphasized the bank’s dedication to reducing Nigeria’s out-of-school children population:

“This intervention aligns with our sustainability efforts to increase access to quality education, especially for the girl-child. Education is a pathway to a brighter future, and we are committed to empowering Nigeria’s youth.”

Future Goals

Polaris Bank aims to extend its reach to 50,000 students by 2028, building on its current success. By combining material support with innovative learning programs, the bank is creating a sustainable model for educational empowerment.

Polaris Bank’s education initiative underscores its commitment to addressing Nigeria’s education crisis. By providing resources, training, and emotional support, the bank is not only enabling access to education but also equipping students with the tools they need to thrive. This impactful approach ensures a brighter future for Nigeria’s youth and contributes to the nation’s long-term development.
