In a bold move to support climate-focused innovation, the Provident Green Club of Lagos has committed ₦50 million in grants to fund 10 environmentally conscious Nigerian startups.
The announcement was made by the Club’s President, Mr. Eke Njoku, during the inaugural Generation Green X Conference in Lagos, themed “The Future is Now.” Njoku revealed that each of the selected startups will receive up to ₦5 million in funding, alongside one year of structured mentorship, incubation, and business acceleration.
“This project is about discovering and nurturing ideas that could transform our climate resilience strategy in Nigeria,” Njoku said. “Some of these startups may have ideas that are struggling or yet to be funded. We want to change that by offering guidance, mentorship, and seed capital.”
He emphasized that the initiative is part of the club’s broader commitment to climate advocacy, the circular economy, and youth empowerment, encouraging innovators to pitch their green business ideas before a panel of expert judges.
The final 10 startups will be paired with industry mentors and supported through a year-long journey to scale their innovations, culminating in the release of their grant funding at the end of the program.
Also speaking at the event, Titilope Oshodi, Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy to the Lagos State Government, urged startups to incorporate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in their operations.
“Adopting ESG frameworks positions startups to access global climate finance opportunities like the Green Climate Fund,” she said. “It’s important for businesses to measure, verify, and report their impact to qualify for international support.”
The Generation Green X platform is expected to be a catalyst for innovation in Nigeria’s climate tech space, fostering solutions that address the urgent environmental challenges facing the nation and continent.
