The Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation (QRDI) Council has launched the Small Business Innovation Grant (SBIG) to support research and development (R&D) and innovation in early-stage small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Announced at the Web Summit Qatar 2025, the grant aims to reduce investment risks, enhance product readiness, and drive economic diversification by backing R&D-focused businesses.
Nada Al Olaqi, Senior Program Director-Innovation Development and Piloting Programs at QRDI Council, emphasized the goal of creating an incubating environment that fosters innovation and supports sustainable economic development in Qatar.
Aligned with QRDI’s mission to advance the nation’s innovation agenda, the SBIG seeks to help SMEs overcome financial risks associated with technology development. By providing targeted funding and incentives, the program aims to help these businesses scale, commercialize their technologies, and expand into global markets.
The grant focuses on key sectors such as healthcare, logistics, smart cities, and creative industries, ensuring that SMEs conducting R&D have the necessary support to thrive. By reinforcing innovation as a core pillar of Qatar’s long-term growth strategy, the QRDI Council is driving forward the country’s economic diversification efforts.
