Savannah Energy has reaffirmed its commitment to education and youth empowerment by supporting 100 students through its Savannah Energy Education and Internship Training (SEE-IT) programme. Launched in 2023 by its midstream subsidiary, Accugas Limited, the initiative targets bright but financially disadvantaged students from Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, providing them with full university scholarships and additional career development support.
The SEE-IT programme offers a comprehensive scholarship package that covers tuition, accommodation, study materials, and living expenses. Since its inception, it has awarded 100 scholarships—50 in its debut year and another 50 in 2024 enabling students to pursue undergraduate degrees in both public and private universities across diverse fields.
In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education, the SEE-IT programme is part of Savannah Energy’s broader sustainability strategy focused on long-term socio-economic development. Beneficiaries not only receive financial support but also benefit from leadership training and personal development sessions. Upon graduation, they are guaranteed internship placements at Savannah Energy, equipping them with practical experience and enhancing their employability.
The programme has gained recognition for its impact and potential. During a recent event, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, represented by former Education Commissioner Idongesit Etiebet, praised the initiative as transformative. He described it as aligning with the state’s A.R.I.S.E. Agenda and encouraged other corporate organisations to adopt similar models to support education and environmental consciousness among young people.
In a move to further its impact, Savannah Energy expanded SEE-IT in 2023 by introducing Environmental Awareness Clubs in 20 secondary schools across Akwa Ibom State. These clubs aim to educate students on sustainable practices and climate issues. The initiative culminated in an environmental quiz competition, with winners receiving cash rewards and automatic scholarship placements under SEE-IT.
Savannah Energy’s Managing Director in Nigeria, Pade Durotoye, said the company is driven by the belief that education unlocks the potential of individuals and communities. He emphasized that SEE-IT is designed to eliminate the financial obstacles that often prevent talented students from accessing higher education.
With more than 1,400 applications received for the 2024 cycle alone, the SEE-IT programme continues to gain traction as a powerful example of how the private sector can contribute meaningfully to addressing Nigeria’s education challenges. By combining scholarship support, environmental education, and career readiness, Savannah Energy is laying the foundation for long-term impact in the lives of students and their communities.
