The Senate is championing the NYSC Trust Fund Bill to combat the current unemployment crisis among graduates.
The bill aims to empower corps members with essential skills during their mandatory one-year service and provide access to loans for establishing small-scale businesses based on acquired skills.
Senator Adeyemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs and sponsor of the bill, emphasized the importance of preventing abuse of the Trust Fund. He highlighted the structural safeguards and checks and balances in place to ensure transparency and accountability.
The proposed Trust Fund would involve representation of young adults on its Board of Trustees, providing a platform for their voices to be heard.
Additionally, Adaramodu assured that the NYSC’s structure would undergo minimal changes, with adjustments mainly focused on trustee members and procurement processes.
