Seplat Energy Plc, in partnership with its Joint Venture partner, NNPC Exploration and Production Limited, has awarded a total of N18 million to secondary school students from Edo and Delta States through the 2025 edition of its PEARLs Quiz competition. The announcement was made during the grand finale held on Saturday in Asaba, Delta State.
The Pioneer Education Centre from Edo State emerged overall winner, receiving N10 million, while Notre Dame College, Uzoro, Delta State, and Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Model College, Benin, Edo State, came second and third, taking home N5 million and N3 million respectively.
The PEARLs Quiz, which stands for Promoting Exceptional and Respectable Leaders, is one of Seplat Energy’s flagship Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programmes aimed at promoting academic excellence, critical thinking, and leadership development among students in its host communities.
Speaking at the event, Seplat Energy’s Director of External Affairs and Social Performance, represented by the General Manager, Government Relations, commended the participants for their outstanding performance and encouraged them to remain focused on their educational goals. She highlighted that the initiative, introduced in 2012, has continued to nurture young minds and strengthen the company’s relationship with its host communities.
“A school might be going home today with the prize, but all of you are already winners,” she said, adding that the knowledge gained from the competition would contribute meaningfully to the students’ personal growth and future success.
The event also featured a STEAM Innovation Challenge, where students showcased creative projects in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, reflecting Seplat’s commitment to fostering innovation and practical learning among young people.
Representing the Managing Director of NNPC Exploration and Production Limited, the Corporate Communication Department’s representative commended the students’ enthusiasm and brilliance, describing their performance as a sign of the region’s growing academic potential.
In his remarks, Delta State Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Girl Child Development, praised Seplat Energy and its JV partner for their consistent investment in education, describing the PEARLs Quiz as an exemplary model of corporate social responsibility.
She noted that the initiative not only rewards excellence but also aligns with the state’s vision of building a generation of confident, knowledgeable, and responsible young leaders. “Today, we celebrate not just a contest but the brilliance, promise, and potential of our young people, the true future of our states and our nation,” she said.
