Some stories don’t begin with applause.
They begin with a spark, a moment, a pain, a possibility.
That was how Muazu Africa began.
Getting shortlisted as one of the top 10 nominees for the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Award for Social Impact, is a deep affirmation that impact, when rooted in truth and service, does not go unnoticed.
We started with a vision: that every social entrepreneur across Africa — beginning with Nigeria — deserves access. Access to markets. Access to capital. Access to communities. Access to the very tools that can transform raw ideas into lasting impact.
Today, Nigeria boasts over 443,000 social enterprises, with 46% concentrated in Lagos — Africa’s second largest economy, valued at $259 billion by purchasing power parity. And in this ecosystem, Muazu Africa stands not just as a player, but as a builder of bridges: connecting the underserved to opportunities, and the unseen to platforms.
Our Lagos story is special. It’s where it all began.
From policy engagement at the Lagos State House of Assembly — where we sat with House Committee members to advocate for the legislation of social impact businesses — to having three desk centres across Yaba, Ikoyi, and Badagry, we have made it our mission to be present where it matters.
We’ve walked alongside 1,500 Lagos-based social entrepreneurs, helping them connect to real resources. We’ve supported NGOs transitioning into registered Social Enterprises and watched one of them win a fully-funded international award in Europe. 35 others found paid opportunities and field trip sponsorships, and there is a $100,000 grassroots fund pledged for more changemakers.
We didn’t do it for recognition. We did it because we saw people — we saw potential. And we believed in the power of ordinary people to do extraordinary things, if only they had a little support.
So yes, we are grateful for this nomination. It is not a finish line; it is a milestone. A reminder that the work matters. That we are seen.
To our community, our team, our partners, and everyone who believed even when the resources weren’t enough — this is our win.
Regardless of the outcome, we remain committed to the mission. To build. To serve. To believe.
Because every time we show up, someone else dares to dream.
