Tourba has entered into a strategic partnership with ThriveAgric, one of Nigeria’s leading agri-tech platforms, to fast-track the adoption of conservation agriculture among smallholder farmers across the country.
Tourba, a nature-based carbon project developer, focuses on advancing food security and climate resilience through sustainable farming practices. The collaboration aims to onboard thousands of farmers into Tourba’s carbon farming program, targeting 27,200 hectares across Kaduna, Kano, and Bauchi states during the 2025 dry and wet farming seasons.
The initiative will also establish 100 demonstration plots across key regions, serving as living classrooms where farmers can learn and adopt best practices in conservation agriculture, such as crop diversification, soil conservation, and agroforestry techniques.
Tourba recently achieved a milestone by listing its conservation agriculture projects in Nigeria and Brazil on the Verra Registry under the VM0042 v2.1 methodology, with another project in Morocco listed earlier in 2023.
“This partnership with ThriveAgric strengthens our mission to scale conservation agriculture in Nigeria while ensuring farmers receive the tools and training they need to build climate resilience,” said Opeoluwa Odunayo Filani, Country Manager at Tourba Nigeria. “By combining ThriveAgric’s reach with Tourba’s technical expertise, we are building the foundation for a truly inclusive and impactful carbon farming program.”
Tourba’s carbon farming model enhances soil fertility, supports farmers in adopting climate-smart techniques, and generates certified carbon credits that contribute to climate action. With a current project portfolio spanning over 300,000 hectares across the Global South, Tourba aims to scale its impact to 6 million hectares across Africa and South America.
ThriveAgric, through its digital platform and strong farmer network, provides smallholder farmers with access to financing, inputs, and markets. This partnership adds a new layer of support by integrating conservation agriculture training and sustainability-driven practices.
Together, Tourba and ThriveAgric are setting a new standard for agricultural transformation in Nigeria, restoring soil health, improving farmer livelihoods, and generating high-integrity carbon credits that advance climate resilience and sustainable development across the continent.
