W.TEC Empowers 40 Girls in STEAM at She Creates Camp
Share

The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) has empowered over 40 girls, aged 13–17, at the 18th edition of its ‘She Creates Camp’, a hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) program.

Held over two weeks at Laureates College, Mafoluku, Lagos, the residential camp equipped participants with creativity, innovation, and 21st-century skills, enabling them to design and implement practical technological solutions.

The girls engaged in interactive sessions covering Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), Software Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Cybersecurity and Digital Safety, Web Development with AI, Data Science, Film and Content Creation, and Handcrafts.

They also went on excursions to LTT Coastal and Marine Services and Mohinani Sonnex Packaging Recycling Plant in Ikorodu, gaining first-hand exposure to sustainability-driven industries and innovation in practice.

W.TEC Program Coordinator, Ms. Diamond Osomoji, said the initiative is focused on bridging the gender gap in STEAM.

“We are trying to fill the gap. We believe that catching them young is important to help them make the right career choices. One of the objectives of this camp is for us to ensure that these girls see STEAM as interesting and see themselves as special,” she said.

Through the She Creates Camp, W.TEC continues to empower young girls as future innovators and entrepreneurs, strengthening their confidence and skills to thrive in STEAM-related careers.
