Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, has been honored by the World Economic Forum (WEF) for its outstanding achievements in reducing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions and advancing the circular economy.
The recognition, announced in a statement titled ‘World Economic Forum Recognizes Schneider Electric’s Wuxi, China Factory as a Sustainability Lighthouse,’ highlights the company’s Wuxi factory for its cutting-edge sustainability initiatives.
Schneider Electric now boasts the highest number of Sustainability Lighthouses globally, with four of the 25 recognized by the WEF. These include facilities in Wuxi, China; Hyderabad, India; Lexington, Kentucky; and Le Vaudreuil, France.
The Wuxi campus, a hub for electronics manufacturing, achieved net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions in 2022—eight years ahead of its target. Through innovative measures such as AI-powered eco-design, a closed-loop CO2 tracking system with suppliers, and machine learning to optimize energy efficiency, the site reduced its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90%, Scope 3 emissions by 65%, and water usage by 15% within two years.
Mourad Tamoud, Schneider Electric’s Chief Supply Chain Officer, emphasized the role of supply chain operations in achieving sustainability goals. “Our Wuxi campus and other Sustainability Lighthouses globally showcase how sustainability can drive innovation and operational excellence,” he said.
The WEF’s Kiva Allgood echoed this sentiment, noting that the lighthouse network and digital technologies like AI-driven control towers and zero-code workflows are revolutionizing production ecosystems. “These innovations set benchmarks that inspire transformational change across industries,” Allgood stated.
Schneider Electric’s recognition underscores its leadership in sustainability and its commitment to setting industry standards. With its advanced facilities and innovative approaches, the company continues to demonstrate how businesses can achieve environmental goals while driving operational efficiency.
