The stage is set for the 6th edition of the renowned Nigeria Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Summit and Awards, a pivotal event on the nation’s entrepreneurial calendar. Aptly named SMESUMA ’23, this year’s edition is poised to spotlight and honor the indomitable entrepreneurial spirit that fuels both the public and private sectors of the economy. Amidst the backdrop of global challenges, Nigerians have displayed remarkable resilience, not only generating employment but also fostering prosperity. The summit, endorsed by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), is scheduled to take place in the heart of the nation’s capital, Abuja, in October 2023.

Adedayo Olalekan, the visionary convener of SMESUMA ’23, declared during a press conference in Lagos over the weekend, “This year’s edition marks a departure from the norm, an embodiment of uniqueness. Despite the unforgiving economic landscape characterized by inflation, global conflicts, and the turbulent situation in Ukraine, Nigerians have demonstrated a resolute can-do spirit that propels them forward

Olalekan articulated the essence of the event, saying, “Through SMESUMA ’23, we are not only acknowledging these luminous trailblazers but also rewarding their unwavering determination and endurance.”

Highlighting the impact of governments at the state level, he added, “Numerous state governments have amplified the vibrancy of enterprises within their regions, adding hues of progress and enrichment. In a win-win gesture, every category winner will empower an SME operator directly during the event.”

The summit is set to pay tribute to governors who have assumed pivotal roles in fostering substantial growth and development within the SME landscape. Olalekan mentioned, “Distinguished governors such as those from Bauchi, Gombe, Nasarawa, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Adamawa, Imo, and Bayelsa have orchestrated transformative advancements in their states. Their contributions will be lauded and celebrated, serving as inspiration for the nation.”

SMESUMA ’23 emerges as an event poised to capture the collective spirit of resilience, determination, and innovation that defines Nigeria’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. As the nation readies itself for this celebration of excellence, anticipation runs high for the platform that will spotlight and elevate the remarkable journey of SMEs and their champions in the public and private
