In a move to advance youth empowerment and promote clean energy education, itel Solar Energy has partnered with the University of Ibadan to launch its first Solar Energy Training Centre, bridging corporate social responsibility and sustainable development through education.
The centre, commissioned on May 29, 2025, on the university’s campus, marks a significant step in itel Solar Energy’s CSR strategy focused on equipping young Nigerians with practical skills relevant to the green economy. Designed as a hub for weekly training, the program will combine classroom teaching with hands-on experience in solar installation and energy systems.
The company said the initiative aims to not only increase awareness of renewable energy among Nigerian youth but also provide clear employment pathways in STEM and marketing fields. Outstanding participants in the program are expected to benefit from scholarships and guaranteed job placements with the company, underlining its commitment to long-term impact.
At the commissioning, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan commended the initiative, describing it as a valuable partnership that offers students meaningful opportunities for professional growth. He noted that the training, scholarships, and internships would enrich the university community while strengthening industry-academic collaboration.
The Public Relations Manager at itel Solar Energy reiterated the company’s commitment to sustainability, stating that the project represents part of a broader effort to invest in human capital and clean energy development. According to her, the training centre reflects itel’s long-term vision of preparing a generation of energy-savvy professionals who can drive Nigeria’s clean energy transition.
The partnership comes at a time when Nigeria is exploring avenues to boost renewable energy adoption and tackle youth unemployment. By focusing on education, job creation, and renewable technology, the initiative is expected to contribute to national development goals in clean energy and workforce readiness.
