The Founder and Group Managing Director (GMD) of Africa’s leading integrated payments and digital commerce company, Interswitch Group, Mitchell Elegbe, has won The Ecosystem Leadership Award at the 2022 edition of the FintechNGR Platinum Fintech Awards which held in Lagos on Saturday, July 2nd.

The Platinum Fintech Awards, which are presented by the Fintech Association of Nigeria (FinTechNGR), were established to honor outstanding innovators and organizations that use technological advancements to improve Africans’ quality of life.

According to a statement by the company, Elegbe was given the award in recognition of her pioneering role as one of the industry’s trailblazers in Africa, paving the way for the ecosystem’s development and growth. Elegbe is a significant player in the fintech sector.

According to the statement, Interswitch has created multi-channel payment platforms and commerce solutions under Elegbe’s direction, empowering entrepreneurs and innovators across the continent to deploy novel product concepts and create original business models. The company has also impressively expanded into new markets across Africa, broadened its distribution channels, and diversified its line of business. This has led to the emergence of other brands like the renowned payment platform Quickteller and Verve, Africa’s first native payment card, as well as revolutionary payment innovation and strong growth.

Elegbe thanked the awards ceremony’s organizers and noted that the face of fintech in Nigeria and elsewhere is continuing to grow and evolve in tandem with shifting consumer demands. Elegbe was represented at the event by Ndifreke Nkose, Chief Strategy Officer at Interswitch Group. He continued by saying that more fintech firms are developing long-lasting solutions to bring about the much-needed transformation in Africa.

He said, “I thank the Fintech Association of Nigeria for this recognition. I also congratulate all awardees and nominees- thank you for your contribution to the growth and development of our ecosystem.”

“This recognition will further inspire us all at Interswitch as we continue our quest to inspire Africa to greatness, leveraging technology, innovation, and insight to advance prosperity for individuals, businesses, and communities across the continent.”

Elegbe has received numerous honors for his visionary leadership and expertise, including the Institute of Directors of Nigeria’s Entrepreneurial Award in 2021, the African Banker Icon Award in 2019, and the 2015 Harvard Business School Association (Nigeria) Leadership Award for the General Management Category, among others.

With members from twenty-one (21) different economic sectors, including banks, law firms, media companies, players in the digital lending, agricultural technology, insurance technology, health technology, educational technology, blockchain technology, and information and communications technology sectors, among others, the Fintech Association of Nigeria (FintechNGR) is at the center of fintech activities in Nigeria.
