The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has launched an Inter-Agency Innovation Competition and Awards designed to drive innovation, collaboration and problem-solving across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government.
The initiative, announced by NASENI, seeks to harness creative and technology-driven solutions from public servants that can improve service delivery and address national challenges, while also strengthening Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem with potential benefits for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
NASENI said the competition aligns with its statutory mandate to “develop and maintain a dynamic infrastructure to drive Nigeria’s indigenous industrialisation, job creation and national progress.”
According to the agency, the competition invites MDAs to submit innovative ideas and solutions across key sectors such as health, agriculture, education and infrastructure, using science and technology to enhance efficiency and improve the quality of life for Nigerians.
“This initiative is designed to unlock innovative thinking within the public sector and promote collaboration among MDAs,” NASENI said. “By leveraging science and technology, we aim to develop practical solutions that address pressing national challenges and support sustainable economic growth.”
Although targeted at government institutions, the competition is expected to have ripple effects for MSMEs, particularly through the development of scalable innovations, improved public sector processes, and stronger linkages between government, innovators and the private sector.
NASENI encouraged all eligible MDAs to participate by submitting their entries through its official innovation portal, noting that the programme will also help identify ideas that can be commercialised or adapted for wider use in the economy.
The agency added that fostering innovation within government institutions is critical to building a resilient economy, supporting indigenous technology development and creating opportunities for businesses, startups and MSMEs across Nigeria.
The competition forms part of broader efforts to position innovation, science and technology as key drivers of national development and inclusive growth.
