Charles Odii, the Director General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), has highlighted the agency’s commitment to empowering small-scale business owners. The announcement was made during the grand finale of a three-day capacity-building program on packaging and branding of products held in Ibadan.
The training, which targeted selected small-scale business owners in Oyo state, aimed to prepare SMEs in Nigeria for global competitiveness, focusing on techniques for product branding to attract potential customers. As SMEs contribute approximately 48% to Nigeria’s GDP, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, their role as a critical driver of economic growth cannot be overstated.
The capacity-building program, attended by 50 beneficiaries, is aligned with the goal of equipping SMEs with the necessary skills to participate effectively in the African Continental Free Trade Agreement. Participants expressed optimism that the knowledge gained would not only enhance their individual brands but also contribute to overall economic growth.
SMEDAN continues to play a vital role in supporting and developing small and medium enterprises across Nigeria, fostering their growth and competitiveness on both national and global scales.
