President Bola Tinubu announced that the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will generate direct employment for millions of Nigerians and benefit over 30 million people across the country. Tinubu made these remarks during the inauguration of the 700 km highway construction and the design procurement of the 1000 km Sokoto-Badagry superhighway on Sunday in Lagos.
The project, part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, aims to enhance connectivity, facilitate economic growth, and improve the quality of life for Nigerians. “This 700 km superhighway, a 10-lane road project, represents a crucial step in our efforts to enhance connectivity, facilitate economic growth, and improve the quality of life for our people. It will provide direct employment for millions of people across coastal states, and over 30 million citizens will benefit and have access to production and marketing centres,” Tinubu stated.
He emphasized that the highway will connect communities in nine states, foster trade and commerce, boost tourism, and create new opportunities. Tinubu also highlighted the strategic linkage of the coastal infrastructure to the Lekki Free Trade Zones, Deep Seaport, and Dangote Refinery, stressing its potential to bring millions of opportunities to coastal communities and states.
Tinubu assured citizens of his administration’s commitment to accelerating industrialization and economic prosperity, recognizing the significant strides the country is making despite challenges. He commended the industrial contributions of Aliko Dangote, Hi-Tech Construction Company, and Chagoury Group for their resilience in the challenging business environment.

The project began in March 2024, with the first phase starting from Lagos. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is expected to enhance the country’s infrastructure, boost economic activities, and provide significant employment opportunities for Nigerians.
